Have you heard about Atlanta’s Design District?

Last night while at dinner with friends I met an interesting young woman who recently re-located from Los Angeles, California to Atlanta.  When I asked her what part of Atlanta she had moved to, she said, “The Design District.”  The Design District? Really? I’ve lived in and around the city of Atlanta for over 2 decades and have been writing blogs about our great city for a few years also, this is definitely the first time I had ever heard of any area of Atlanta being referred to as the “Design District.”   Atlanta is growing as a city and wouldn’t be surprised at this point

I was intrigued.  After a little research, I found out exactly what area of Atlanta she was referring to.  Atlanta’s West Midtown Design District or as some call it, Westside Atlanta, is the popular hub for interior designers, architects, graphic designers, event designers and producers of film, television and music. New multi-family residences have grown out of the ground nestled in the history of the area’s original warehouses which were used for processing farming products and livestock sent from rural areas along the rail lines after the civil war. Trendy farm to table restaurants and eateries dot the area. Casual and edgy, many of the receiving buildings adjacent to the original tracks still stand but have been converted to luxury retail space. Throughout the district you will find furnishings, fabrics and fabricators of everything from wrought iron to custom seating.

The proximity to Midtown, Downtown and Buckhead and the ease of access to I-75 along its Eastern corridor have people discovering that there is a lot to be found if you GO WEST.

Live and Work in the Design District!

The West Midtown Design District in Atlanta features a wide variety of great urban apartments, condos and lofts for live and work options. The district is home to businesses which support design, film and television production, art direction and media production. The edgy urban feel makes it one of the most popular in town Atlanta residential areas with new high rise residential spaces currently under construction as well as newly created live/work apartments featuring great views, granite counter tops, stainless appliances and luxury living. Hotels and support businesses are in West Midtown and close to Midtown Atlanta and Downtown Atlanta just on the other side of I-75. Georgia Tech is in the Westside.
