A look back….one year later!

It’s been just a year ago that two amazing real estate companies joined forces.  Keller Knapp Realty and my beloved Red Robin Realtors, two of Atlanta’s most popular boutique firms, merged on May 1, 2017.  And, what a year it has been!

Many people have asked how it’s going.  Some are still unsure exactly what happened and I have to explain.  Some think I sold Red Robin and moved to Chattanooga (seriously)!  So, on this one year anniversary of bringing these two great companies together, I thought I’d take a pause to reflect over the past 12 months and share some of the great things that are happening.

The reason for our merger was really pretty simple.  Red Robin was a small, neighborhood brokerage with a great reputation and about 25 agents.  I found myself drawn to the management side of the business as we added more agents: I love training and coaching, and, anyone who knows me knows I love marketing!

Keller Knapp Realty was a like-minded boutique firm, with a stellar Broker, Weslee Knapp.  Similarly involved in their community base in Oakhurst, the company also exhibited a strong reputation for integrity.  Let me tell you…Weslee is a force in real estate.  He’s also one of the most genuine people I know.  While his desire to support agents is strong, he found himself without enough time to give the support the agents needed as the company grew.

There was a natural synergy with these two firms.  The brokers were like-minded:  Agent-focused.  Community-focused.  Client-focused, nearly to a fault.  Our agents were also a pleasingly authentic and professional group.  It just made sense to bring them together.  In a management capacity, I’m able to support and train our agents, and provide a boost of marketing to the Keller Knapp brand.  Weslee brings a broad range of experience that the Red Robin agents didn’t have before — commercial, investment, property management, new construction, to name a few.

So, we merged the two companies together.  Since Keller Knapp was the larger company, we kept that name for the firm.  Our team of Red Robin agents are still in the same office in Ormewood Park, providing exceptional service to our buyer and seller clients like we always have.  You’ll still see our iconic bird yard signs on just about every street in the neighborhood.   For me personally, I’m spending more of my time these days in a management role, but still sell enough to keep myself up to speed on the market (keep those referrals coming!).

I truly feel that, together, we’re greater that the sum of our parts.  This year has been amazing.  It’s been fantastic getting to know all the Keller Knapp agents.  We opened a 4th office in Tucker.  We’ve added 27 new agents in the past year.  A full 35% (37) of our agents were Atlanta REALTORS® Top Producers last year, and we had the #7 Individual Agent and #3 Team in Atlanta in 2017.  That’s pretty impressive for a boutique firm.

There’s an exciting energy here at Keller Knapp and Red Robin that’s hard to explain.  I’m happy.  I smile a lot.  I love this company and the agents. I love what we’re building together.  And, I’m not ready to move to Chattanooga….yet!

When Melissa Wakamo began her real estate career in 2004, her goal was to focus on her immediate area and get to know her neighbors. "I've had a lot of fun over the years helping my neighbors sell their homes and helping newcomers become a part of our community."

Melissa quickly became one of metro Atlanta's top producing agents and consistently performed in the top 1% of all Atlanta agents. By 2009, Melissa's real estate team had grown to include several agents and support staff, dedicated to providing exceptional service to buyers and sellers in Atlanta's intown neighborhoods.

In 2010, Melissa transitioned Red Robin REALTORS® into an independently owned boutique brokerage. Even in the tough real estate market during that time, Red Robin REALTORS® continued to outperform other small brokerages and was able to help buyers and sellers adapt to the rapid changes in the market.

In 2017, Melissa had the opportunity to merge the Red Robin REALTORS team with another like-minded boutique brokerage, Keller Knapp Realty. The two community-focused organizations bring together more than 100 agents, including 3 of the top 10 agents in metro Atlanta. With offices in Oakhurst, Ormewood Park and Midtown, Keller Knapp Realty and Red Robin REALTORS team are the top boutique real estate firm in Atlanta.

In her role as Managing Broker, Melissa provides agent training, marketing and strategic oversight for the Brokerage, ensuring that the brokerage maintains its focus and commitment to the intown market.
