Ponce City Market and the East Side Beltline gathering Plaza! Coming very soon!

Making Atlanta history comes the highly anticipated Ponce city market project which is almost ready for the grand opening.  Ponce City Market which is located on Ponce De Leon Avenue in between Midtown Atlanta, Virginia Highlands and Inman Park will restore 1.1 million square feet of the historic Sears, Roebuck & Company building, creating a pleasant and visually appeasing office space and 259 residential lofts and flats.

Closely resembling the remarkable revitalization of neighboring cities like Chattanooga where vacant industrial style building were left unattended for upward of a half century, inviting vandalism and crime and having an adverse reaction to continued growth and revitalization. 

The redevelopment has focused on preserving the building’s historic character and sustaining its connection with the community. Ponce City Market will reflect the authenticity of the historic structure and the surrounding neighborhoods, returning the building to its prominence as a thriving landmark in the Southeast.

The grand opening  of Ponce City Market will include a collection of sidewalks that will connect it to the East side  BeltLine trail.  The Ponce City Market is also destined to include a public space or a plaza for gathering that is linked just off the Eastside Trail and is being funded by a Federal Transportation, Community, and System Preservation grant (TCSP).

The plaza space, which will include sustainable plantin, a bio-retention area and native grass meadow that will be accessible from the bridge over North Avenue and from another existing access path to Ponce City Market’s rail shed deck. Ponce City Market will then construct their own stairs and an elevator from North Avenue as part of the construction of the Boiler Building, which they will make accessible to the public

Ponce City Market itself is supply funding and construction to ensure that this project sees the light of day. over the next few weeks Atlanta residents and passerby’s will begin to notice the grading and site preparation work for the plaza and the Boiler building.. In finalizing the plans for this project, Ponce City Market and Atlanta BeltLine, Inc. have coordinated closely with Trees Atlanta to address the trees that will be removed as part of this project replacement plan is in place. Once site preparation is complete, construction of the plaza should start this coming fall. 

Atlanta BeltLine, Inc. and Ponce City Market will jointly host a study group meeting on June 19th at AMLI Parkside. Stay up to date on this project as it progresses at beltline.org/construction-progress. Look for the sign below to be posted along the Eastside Trail.
