If you’ve been hearing things that go bump in the night, chances are that it’s not a raccoon or the wind – it’s zombies!! And thanks to Melissa Wakamo and Red Robin Realtors, more are on their way, headed to invade the East Atlanta area and take over Maynard Jackson High School (MJHS) for one weekend in October.

Wakamo, a long-time Ormewood Park resident and realtor, last year approached Maynard Jackson High School with an offer to sponsor a fall fundraiser with proceeds benefitting the school’s Parent Teacher Student Association (PTSA).  The PTSA uses proceeds raised from fundraisers and memberships to support teacher and student projects — such as Teacher Appreciation Week, supplies for class activities and homecoming week — which regular school budgets do not stretch to cover.

“We have been witnessing so many great things happening at Maynard Jackson High School these last several years and wanted to become involved with the school in a way that we could help them achieve more,” said Melissa Wakamo, title of Red Robin Realtors.  “And since all schools – especially public schools in our area – are strapped by low budgets, we decided that creating a fun and special event to raise money would help the students and staff most.”

The result of Wakamo’s proposition is Red Robin REALTORS,  presents the Atlanta Zombie Apocalypse: Dead End, a live immersion scare event featuring special effects, realistic costumes, and live actors!  The event is one weekend only –Friday, Oct. 23 and Saturday, Oct. 24, 2015, from 7 p.m. til midnight. The attraction will be located at the corner of Chester Ave. and Glenwood Ave. in Grant Park (next to Maynard Jackson High School, 801 Glenwood Ave., Atlanta, 30312), with parking available in the MJHS parking lot.

“It was completely unexpected to have Melissa come in and not only offer to sponsor an event, but actually be so involved with leading the effort to make it happen,” said Kim Durham-Wright, MJHS PTSA co-president. “Melissa understands that a strong high school benefits our entire community, and we are thrilled to have her support as well as other businesses and residents in the neighborhood who have stepped up their physical and financial contributions.”

The Atlanta Zombie Apocalypse: Dead End is a unique partnership between MJHS, Red Robin Realtors and Shane Morton, the organizer of Atlanta Zombie Apocalypse, which has been described as one of the leading immersive horror experiences in the nation.  Shane  is providing his services pro bono, and planning two makeup and costume workshops for theatre students at MJHS as well.

The Atlanta Zombie Apocalypse: Dead End is designed for older youth and adults, and sure to be a real scare, so please think twice about bringing young children.  You can find more details and purchase tickets in advance at zombieatl.com.  All proceeds from the event benefit Maynard Jackson High School.
