History of Atlanta’s famous New Years eve bash!

The first Peach Drop was in 1989 at Underground Atlanta and has become a world-renowned event as well as a favorite Atlanta tradition. Weighing in at more than 800 pounds, the peach weighs almost as much as an average adult horse!

The peach is made out of fiberglass and foam, the same materials that many surf boards are made out of! Before making its annual decent, the peach undergoes a full makeover—being painted and refurbished each year! The first headline act to perform at the Peach Drop was the Robert Ray Orchestra in 1989.

Some of the headliners to hit the stage at Peach Drop have included Morris Day & The Time, Collective Soul, Sister Hazel, Edwin McCain, Lonestar, Miranda Lambert, Julianne Hough, Kansas, Tito Jackson and Abby Road Live. When the countdown begins, it takes the peach 58 seconds to descend the 138 foot tower of lights to its resting place at the bottom.

Millions of confetti pieces are expected to rain down onto Peach Drop patrons on New Year’s Eve. Peach Drop is the largest New Year’s Eve celebration in the Southeast. Peach Drop is viewed live on television by millions of people around the world! The Peach Drop was originally created by Urban Festival, Inc, the management company of Underground Atlanta and Entertainment Design Group.
