Visit the Starlight Six Drive-in Movie Theater this holiday season!

Many Atlanta residents have forgotten all about the Starlight Six Drive-in theater located on Moreland Avenue, just minutes from East Atlanta, Grant Park and Ormewood Park!  Some of us have forgotten how much fun this truly American-esque outing and adventure can be.  But more than that, to keep this great neighborhood entertainment venue alive, we must continue to support it. Did you know that there are only 338 Drive-in theaters left in the United States, with an average of 35 closing their doors each year?

Check out the new movies playing there this holiday and take the family.  Prices and concessions are a great value and the weather is not bad either!

Grease was one of the highest “Drive-in” theater grossing movies, and it actually had the most popular “Drive-in” theater scene. (Confusing… but it’s a pretty cool statistic, trust us)

Tucked in a picturesque area on the outskirts of Atlanta, the Starlight Drive-In Theatre has always maintained its lush greenery and ode to classic art-deco style. These days the Starlight boasts four screens with an all-new digital projection system that delivers the brightest picture and clearest sound ever experienced at the Drive-In.

History of the Startlight Drive-In.

When the Starlight Drive-In opened in 1949, it showcased one massive screen where moviegoers flocked to see the latest films. In the late 1950’s the rising cost of residential and commercial properties forced many Drive-In Theatres theatres to close. Fortunately, the Starlight has thrived due to the unique location and loyal patrons.

In 1956 they added a second screen and changed the name to the Starlight Twin. In the early 1980’s many hard-top theaters began converting to multiplexes with smaller screens. So in 1983 they added 4 more screens to accommodate the demand, and they also opened the famous Swap Meet.

In 1998 the only other Atlanta Drive-In Theatre, the North 85 Twin, was shutdown to make way for another multiplex. The loss of the North 85 Twin only helped to make the Starlight more popular with the local community. More than ever, customers craved the nostalgia and double-feature fun that is unique to the Startlight.

In 1999 they held the first “Drive-In Invasion”, a three day event featuring live music, cool cars, on-site camping and of course, lots of off-beat classic movies! Weekend events like “Drive Invasion” and “Rock and Roll Monster Bash” are now a welcomed tradition where they showcase local artists, organizations, vendors, and lots of family friendly activities.

In 2013 the Starlight was transformed once again when they upgraded to a digital projection system for the highest quality ever experienced at the Drive-In. On any given night movie fans now enjoy double-features with the sharpest, brightest picture and crystal clear sound broadcast right to their car stereo.

With more than 60 years of great drive-in movies  loyal patrons have made the Starlight into an Atlanta landmark. Come visit this neighborhood gem and experience how fun it is to watch movies under stars!
